Little Envy is an abstract fiber art piece that explores envy as a passing emotional state—something that can quietly arise, intensify, and eventually subside. Rather than presenting envy as something fixed or purely negative, the work approaches it as a natural and transient part of our emotional landscape.
Shades of green interlock and intertwine across the surface like a moving wave, creating a sense of continuous motion. The forms appear to push and pull against one another, reflecting the way feelings can build beneath the surface before rising into our awareness. Just as emotions rarely remain contained, Little Envy gradually escapes the boundaries of its rectangular form.
The work spills outward along the sides, while hanging threads extend from the bottom, interrupting the otherwise dense texture and defined shape of the main composition. These elements create the impression that the emotion has overflowed its boundaries—momentarily breaking free before eventually settling and fading away. The contrast between the structured central form and its unruly edges mirrors the tension between our desire to contain certain feelings and their tendency to surface on their own.
Guided by synesthesia, color becomes a language for emotion. The shifting greens give envy a visual and tactile presence, while their rhythmic movement suggests that the feeling is never entirely still. It rises, changes, and recedes like a wave, leaving behind traces of its presence.
