Part of a limited series, A Glimpse into Another World is a tufted textile work with hand-sculpted surface detailing. Inspired by the driveway and walkway entrance leading into the inner courtyard of Pihlajatie 3 in Meilahti, Helsinki, the piece focuses on a seemingly ordinary passageway and transforms it into an invitation to look closer, step forward, and imagine what might lie beyond.
The entrance depicted in the work is both physical and symbolic. It marks a transition between the familiar street and the more private, hidden world of the inner courtyard. What appears at first to be simply a path through the city becomes a threshold — a point between what is known and what remains unseen.
A Glimpse into Another World is an exploration of curiosity and possibility. The entrance invites the viewer to imagine continuing along the path, discovering what is around the corner, and entering a space that exists just beyond the immediate view. In this sense, the work is not only about a particular place in Meilahti, but also about the universal experience of encountering something that sparks the desire to explore.
Rather than presenting the courtyard as a complete or literal destination, the work focuses on the moment just before entering — the anticipation of discovery and the possibilities held within an unknown space. The tactile, sculptural surface brings the entrance into a new dimension, allowing the physical structure of the passageway to become a landscape of imagination.
Guided by synesthesia, color and texture translate the atmosphere of the place into a more emotional and sensory language. The layered textile surface encourages the viewer to linger, look beyond the obvious, and perhaps imagine their own journey through the space.
A Glimpse into Another World is ultimately an invitation: to pause at the threshold, follow the path, and wonder what might be waiting on the other side.
