Art of a limited series, Kallio Pottikonkki #1 is a tufted textile work with hand-sculpted surface detailing. The piece is inspired by Kallio, a neighborhood deeply connected to my childhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, my father ran a window repair shop in the area, and some of my earliest memories involve spending time there, earning pocket money by running errands and answering the telephone.
Returning to Kallio in the summer of 2025, I wandered through streets that felt both familiar and transformed. Much had changed, yet at the same time, so much remained. The experience was filled with nostalgia, as fragments of childhood memories resurfaced among the cafés, courtyards, and apartment blocks that continue to define the neighborhood's character.
Guided by synesthesia, memory takes shape through color. The warm palette reflects both the intensity of the summer heat and the emotions that accompanied my return to Kallio. Rather than depicting a specific view, the work captures the atmosphere of remembrance — the feeling of revisiting a place suspended between past and present, where memory and reality gently overlap.
